Continued Controversy Surrounds Fulton County DA
Prosecutor Fani Willis, who has been in the spotlight for her case against former President Donald Trump, has now been subpoenaed for documents related to the use of federal funds by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
Subpoena Details
The subpoena demands that Willis hand over all documents and communications pertaining to the receipt and utilization of federal funds by her office. This includes funds from the Department of Justice’s Office Programs, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Furthermore, the subpoena also requests any documents related to allegations of the misuse of federal funds.
Repeated Requests
The subpoena comes after multiple requests from the committee. In August 2023, September 2023, and December 2023, the committee had previously asked for the documents. Yet, Willis had failed to comply voluntarily with any of these requests.
Allegations of Misuse
The committee’s letter to Willis highlights allegations that federal grant funds, intended to support at-risk youths, were misused for unrelated expenses. These expenses include the purchase of Macbooks, clothing, and travel. The letter also mentions the existence of public whistleblower allegations in this regard.
Trump’s Plea and Ongoing Investigation
Former President Donald Trump, who is at the center of the case led by Willis, has pleaded not guilty. The investigation into the alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election continues.
