OpenAI has entered into a partnership with G42, a technology conglomerate based in Abu Dhabi, with the goal of promoting the adoption of artificial intelligence in the Middle East, particularly in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
G42, which was established by the emirate of Abu Dhabi, plans to leverage OpenAI’s generative AI models in various sectors, including finance, energy, healthcare, and public services. The financial terms of the partnership have not been disclosed.
This collaboration is part of a broader initiative to advance the technology industry in the UAE. G42, backed by Mubadala, has been actively involved in AI adoption in the UAE and previously announced the development of the world’s largest supercomputer for AI training in partnership with Cerebras Systems.
Additionally, Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) made its Falcom 40B large language model (LLM) open source for research and commercial use in May. G42 intends to use Microsoft’s Azure data centers as part of its AI infrastructure to support regional AI adoption.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had previously visited Abu Dhabi in June, advocating for international regulation of AI developments during his AI “world tour.”
