Attorneys for President Biden’s Complaints Dismissed
The Justice Department has rejected attempts made by attorneys for President Joe Biden to remove language critical of his age and memory from a report published by special counsel Robert Hur. The attorneys had complained that the report violated department policy and practice. However, a senior Justice Department official stated that the language was necessary to explain the special counsel’s findings about the president’s state of mind.
Special Counsel’s Report Highlights President Biden’s Mental Acuity
The 388-page report by special counsel Hur highlighted damning characterizations of President Biden’s mental acuity, referring to him as an “elderly man with a poor memory.” The report revealed that President Biden had retained and disclosed classified information after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen. Despite this, the report stated that no criminal charges were warranted in the matter.
Critics Seize on Special Counsel’s Findings
Critics of President Biden have used the special counsel’s findings as further evidence that he is unfit for office. A recent ABC News/Ipsos poll indicated that a majority of Americans believe President Biden is too old to serve another term.
Attorneys Disagree with Department’s Assessment
President Biden’s attorneys, in response to the Justice Department’s decision, expressed their disagreement with the assessment that the language in the report was consistent with department policy and practice. They emphasized that they fundamentally disagreed with the department’s stance.
President Biden Pushes Back
President Biden himself criticized the details in the report, asserting his competence and stating, “I know what the hell I’m doing.” He made these comments during a press conference at the White House on the night of the report’s release.
Special Counsel Hur to Testify before Congress
Special Counsel Robert Hur is scheduled to testify before Congress on March 12 regarding his report. This comes after House Republicans requested his testimony, as well as audio recordings and transcripts related to the probe.
