Deliberate Absence Sparks Calls for Action
Republican representatives are pushing for contempt charges against Hunter Biden after he deliberately skipped his deposition. Speaking to Fox News Digital, Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona expressed his frustration, stating, “Nobody gets to do that. He was sent subpoenas. He was told to appear.”
Allegations Against Eric Swalwell
Rep. Biggs also called for contempt charges against Rep. Eric Swalwell, claiming that Swalwell aided and abetted Hunter Biden by setting up facilities for his press conference. Swalwell admitted to reserving the spot but denied any wrongdoing, asserting that there is “absolutely zero evidence Hunter or his father acted corruptly.”
Seeking Answers from Hunter and James Biden
House Republicans are conducting a probe into allegations that President Biden used his position as vice president to enrich himself and his family. As part of their investigation, they wanted to hear from Hunter Biden about his involvement with foreign businesses in China and Ukraine. Additionally, they sought to hear from James Biden, the president’s brother.
Federal Investigation and Contempt Charges
Hunter Biden is currently under federal investigation for tax and firearms charges. If the House holds him in contempt for skipping his deposition, Rep. Biggs argues that precedent should compel Attorney General Merrick Garland to charge him. Biggs referenced the case of Steve Bannon, who faced contempt charges for failing to cooperate with the Jan. 6 select committee’s investigation.
Hunter Biden’s Defiance
Hunter Biden addressed the media on Wednesday, defiantly stating, “For six years, I have been the target of the unrelenting Trump attack machine, shouting, ‘Where’s Hunter?’ Well, here’s my answer: I am here.” Biden expressed his willingness to testify at a public hearing and criticized Republicans for their tactics, claiming they do not want an open process.
