Confident Prediction of President Biden’s 2024 Election Win
Vice President Kamala Harris has returned to Hollywood to raise campaign funds after a long hiatus during industry strikes. Speaking at a glitzy fundraiser in Los Angeles, Harris expressed confidence in President Biden’s victory in the 2024 election. However, she acknowledged the challenges posed by powerful divisive forces in the nation. Harris emphasized the importance of unity for the strength and future of the country.
Democrats Intensify Efforts to Attract Hollywood Donations
The fundraiser, held at the home of Hollywood philanthropists and lawyers Leslie and Cliff Gilbert-Lurie, showcased the Democratic Party’s intensified efforts to attract political donations from Hollywood following the end of entertainment industry strikes. However, the event also highlighted the challenges Democrats face as the party grapples with divisions over the Israel-Hamas war. A small group of protesters staged a demonstration outside the fundraiser, underscoring the complexities of navigating political fundraising amidst ongoing issues.
Hollywood Resumes Role as Major Source of Campaign Cash
Harris and Biden had been absent from the political fundraising circuit in Los Angeles this year due to the strikes by actors and screenwriters. The tensions between Hollywood workers and studio executives made it politically sensitive to tap into donations from the entertainment industry. However, with the strikes now resolved, Hollywood is once again becoming a significant source of campaign cash for national Democrats.
Fundraiser Yields Close to $500,000
The fundraiser attracted over 140 guests and raised nearly $500,000. Held in a modern home with an art-filled interior, attendees indulged in wine and delectable snacks. Despite the success of the event, it was not without controversy. Approximately two dozen protesters opposed to the Israel-Hamas war gathered outside the home, shouting slogans and throwing fake blood. The presence of police officers ensured security at the event.
Focus on Combatting Antisemitism and Hate
During the fundraiser, Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, spoke about his work to combat antisemitism and hate. He acknowledged the presence of protesters outside, emphasizing the importance of addressing the challenges facing society. Harris echoed his sentiments, urging the audience to continue fighting against antisemitism, Islamophobia, and other forms of hate. She stressed the critical nature of the current moment in history, stating that much of what they believe in is at stake in this election and moment.
Biden’s Campaign Builds Donations in the Bay Area
While politicians have avoided fundraising during the Hollywood strikes, President Biden’s campaign has been successful in obtaining donations from the Bay Area. Biden has held fundraisers in San Francisco and Silicon Valley, tapping into the region’s wealth generated by the tech industry. Last week, during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference, Biden and Harris attended a Democratic National Committee fundraiser amidst protests against the Israel-Hamas war. Biden’s campaign has demonstrated strong fundraising abilities, surpassing former President Trump and GOP primary candidates in the third quarter.
