Restoring Degraded Land in Africa
Deforestation, agricultural expansion, and drought have led to desertification in many African countries. Once-fertile soil has become dry and unproductive.
Project Details
The Great Green Wall project spans across nearly two dozen countries in Africa, aiming to grow trees and vegetation on 247 million acres of degraded land, approximately 2.3 times the size of California.
Goals and Impact
The $36 to 49 billion project aims to create 10 million jobs and sequester 250 million tons of carbon by 2030, offering hope for regreening the semiarid Sahel bioclimate from Senegal to Djibouti.
