Historic Landmark Now Welcomes Visitors Again
The iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris has reopened to visitors following a six-day closure due to striking employees. The workers were demanding better maintenance of the 135-year-old landmark, which was showing traces of rust, and salary hikes.
Agreement Reached
The operator of the 330-meter tower announced that they have reached an agreement with the unions, promising an “ambitious 380 million euro investment by 2031” for renovation work.
Salary Negotiations Underway
Salary negotiations have also been launched, with employees seeking an increase proportionate to revenue from ticket sales. The discussions are expected to be concluded next month.
Upcoming Events
The Eiffel Tower will play a significant role in the Paris Games and Paralympics scheduled for July 26 to August 11. Olympic and Paralympic medals in Paris will contain pieces from the historic landmark.
Previous Closures
Last year, the Eiffel Tower was closed for 10 days during widespread protests in France against pension system reforms.
