Netflix has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming reality competition, “Squid Game: The Challenge.” This show is inspired by the 2021 South Korean sensation, “Squid Game,” and offers viewers a glimpse into a non-lethal version of the intense games portrayed in the original series.
The trailer showcases familiar sets and games reminiscent of those in “Squid Game.” Notably, Young-hee, the eerie animatronic doll from the original series, reappears as participants engage in the “Red Light, Green Light” game. Instead of the deadly consequences seen in the original, contestants here are marked with a black liquid.
Other iconic challenges, such as the treacherous glass bridge, honeycomb, and marble games, are also highlighted in the trailer. The Pink Soldiers, responsible for overseeing the games, make their return as well.
One contestant in the trailer remarks, “This is a savage game,” as scenes depict players scrambling for food and gazing at the enormous cash prize contained within a giant sphere.
The official synopsis reveals that 456 participants will compete for a whopping prize of USD $4.56 million. As they navigate through games inspired by the original series, along with some new additions, their strategies, alliances, and character will be rigorously tested as competitors are eliminated.
The original “Squid Game” series revolved around financially distressed participants who risked their lives in deadly versions of childhood games for a substantial monetary reward. This series achieved monumental success, becoming Netflix’s most-watched series launch ever. A second season has been confirmed, though the release date remains undisclosed.
Fans can anticipate the premiere of “Squid Game: The Challenge” on Netflix on November 22, with episodes releasing weekly.
