Lawrence Optimistic Despite Injury
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars expressed gratitude that his recent injury was not as severe as initially feared. Following an accidental collision with offensive lineman Walker Little, Lawrence suffered an ankle injury during Monday’s game. Reflecting on the incident, Lawrence stated, “I’m thankful it’s not a worse injury than what I thought on the field.”
Uncertainty Surrounds Lawrence’s Return
As a result of his injury, Lawrence was unable to participate in the team’s practice on Wednesday. This has raised questions about his availability for the upcoming game against an undisclosed opponent. The Jaguars, who ended their playoff drought last season, are currently focused on securing the top seed in the AFC. Coach Doug Pederson acknowledged that the team must persevere, regardless of Lawrence’s availability, stating, “We have to weather this storm, so to speak.”
Lawrence’s Dedication to the Team
Lawrence reiterated his commitment to his team, emphasizing that he would only return to the field if he could contribute effectively. “I’d never put myself or the team at higher risk that we aren’t going to do our best because I can’t do my job,” Lawrence asserted. He expressed his willingness to play if he can perform at his usual level, demonstrating his dedication to helping the Jaguars succeed.
A Unfortunate Accident
The injury occurred when Lawrence’s leg was accidentally stepped on by his teammate Walker Little during a play in the fourth quarter. Lawrence lamented the unfortunate nature of the incident, acknowledging that a slight shift in positioning could have prevented the injury. “It’s a freak thing. If I’m 6 inches to the left or right, it doesn’t happen,” Lawrence remarked, reflecting on the circumstances surrounding his injury.
Lawrence’s Determination to Continue
Despite the pain and difficulty in walking, Lawrence initially attempted to leave the field without assistance. However, he eventually required aid from the team’s athletic training staff. Lawrence disclosed that he chose not to use a cart due to his unawareness of cameras capturing his journey to the locker room. Reflecting on his decision, he stated, “I just wanted to get off the field and get out of there.” Although Lawrence admitted that using a cart may have been a better choice, he emphasized that the team had the necessary resources available.
