Royal Encouragement for Environmental Pioneers
As the Earthshot Prize gears up for its third annual celebration, Prince William has personally lauded the fifteen groundbreaking finalists in Singapore. These environmental innovators, drawn from around the globe, have convened for a chance to accelerate their efforts in tackling the world’s most pressing climate challenges.
Showcasing Sustainability Solutions
The finalists are a beacon of hope and invention, showcasing solutions ranging from textile recycling to solar-powered crop preservation. They have gathered for the first time to share insights and opportunities at the Gardens by the Bay—a testament to the ingenuity that blends art with horticulture.
Categories for Change
Spanning five critical environmental categories—nature protection, clean air, ocean revival, waste elimination, and climate action—the finalists represent a broad spectrum of sustainable development. Among them is a U.S. enterprise pioneering polycotton recycling, an Indian initiative combatting food waste with solar technology, and an urban greening project tracking tree growth in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
A Distinguished Panel of Judges
Deciding on the winners is a task for the Earthshot Prize Council, an esteemed group including Queen Rania al Abdullah, Jack Ma, Stella McCartney, David Attenborough, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweale, and Yao Ming. Their diverse expertise and shared commitment to the environment ensure the selection of truly transformative projects.
More Than a Monetary Reward
The Earthshot Prize, initiated by William’s Royal Foundation in 2020, goes beyond the £1 million monetary award. It provides a year of tailored support and resources, ensuring that each finalist can scale their solutions to benefit the planet on a wider scale.
A Royal Tour and a Green Carpet Gala
Marking his first visit to the region in over a decade, Prince William’s four-day tour culminates in a ‘green carpet’ event, highlighting sustainability in the heart of Asia. While Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, supports their son George with school commitments back home, the Prince is set to join a host of celebrities, including Cate Blanchett and Donnie Yen, in celebrating the innovators poised to shape a greener future.
The Earthshot Prize: A Decade of Difference
Positioned as a decade-long endeavor, the Earthshot Prize underscores the Royal Foundation’s vision for a ten-year plan to foster solutions to environmental issues. As the ceremony unfolds, the eyes of the world will not only be on the potential winners but on the collective journey towards a more sustainable planet.
