Prince Harry’s Statement
In a recent statement, Prince Harry revealed that he and his wife, Meghan Markle, felt compelled to step away from their roles as senior members of the royal family in 2020. The couple, along with their son, Prince Archie, relocated to Montecito, California, while their daughter, Princess Lilibet, was born in 2021.
Harry expressed his sadness over the situation, stating, “It was with great sadness to both of us that my wife and I felt forced to step back from this role and leave the country in 2020.” He emphasized the importance of the United Kingdom as his home and the central heritage for his children. However, he highlighted the necessity of ensuring their safety while on UK soil.
Concerned for his wife’s well-being, Harry explained, “I can’t put my wife in danger like that, and given my experiences in life, I’m reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm’s way too.”
Unfair Treatment and Security Requests
Harry’s attorney, Shaheed Fatima, argued in court that the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), which evaluates security needs, treated Prince Harry unfairly in February 2020. Fatima claimed that RAVEC failed to follow its own policies, including conducting a risk analysis of the Duke of Sussex’s safety.
Fatima pointed out that RAVEC should have considered the potential impact of a successful attack on Prince Harry, given his status, background, and profile within the royal family. Furthermore, the attorney argued that RAVEC should have considered the impact on the UK’s reputation in such an event.
Harry argued that the committee rejected his security request without giving him the opportunity to provide his input. Additionally, he discovered that royal family staff, including Edward Young, the assistant private secretary to the late Queen Elizabeth II, were part of the committee. Harry believed this inclusion was inappropriate due to “significant tensions” between himself and Young.
The Home Office’s Response
The Home Office countered Harry’s claims, asserting that any tensions between him and the royal household staff were irrelevant. They argued that the committee was entitled to make its decision since Harry had already relinquished his role as a senior royal.
Representatives for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment regarding the recent hearing. Since their move to the United States, the couple has only brought their children to the UK once, for the late Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022.
