In a recent heart-to-heart with “60 Minutes,” the iconic singer Pink shed light on a dark chapter from her youth, recounting a near-death experience due to a drug overdose during the 1990s.Reflecting on her turbulent upbringing, Pink shared with Cecilia Vega, “My childhood home was filled with daily chaos – my parents constantly at loggerheads, hurling objects and words at each other. Their animosity was palpable.”Characterizing her younger self as “rebellious,” Pink admitted to not only consuming but also peddling drugs during that phase. This rebellious streak led to her eviction from home and her subsequent dropout from high school. “I was spiraling out of control,” she confessed.The gravity of her drug abuse culminated on Thanksgiving in 1995. “I was at this rave, and I overdosed,” Pink recalled. That fateful night saw her consuming a lethal cocktail of drugs, including ecstasy, angel dust, and crystal meth. This dangerous mix nearly claimed her life.However, this harrowing episode marked a turning point for Pink. She swore off hard drugs shortly after and, in a twist of fate, secured her inaugural record contract with an all-female R&B ensemble. This was the stepping stone to her illustrious solo career, where she adopted ‘Pink’ – a moniker from her adolescent years.
Pink’s relentless drive is evident in her words, “I constantly challenge myself – be it physically, emotionally, spiritually, or vocally. I’m always pushing the envelope.” She vehemently rejects societal expectations that women should diminish their ambitions or presence with age. “Why should we dial it down? I intend to give it my all, always,” she affirmed.
