Antarctica-Bound Passengers’ Journey Altered
Passengers aboard a Norwegian Cruise Line ship bound for Antarctica were left disappointed when the ship’s course was rerouted around South America, nearly 200 miles off course from the original destination they booked.
Helen Midler, a traveler on the ship, noticed a change in the trip description after boarding. The new itinerary indicated a “round-trip of South America,” deviating from the initial plan to visit Paradise Bay, Antarctica.
Social Media Outcry
Passengers expressed their frustration on social media platforms, with videos posted on TikTok highlighting their disappointment and feeling of being misled.
Statement from Norwegian Cruise Line
Norwegian Cruise Line responded, stating that the ship did visit Antarctica but altered the plan to Admiralty Bay, an island more than 200 miles north of the original destination due to operational reasons and a recent regulatory requirement.
Reminder for Cruise Travelers
Experts emphasize the importance of carefully reading cruise contracts and working with travel advisers to avoid potential itinerary changes and disappointments during cruise vacations.
