Desire to Stay at Oregon
Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning has addressed the rumors surrounding his potential move to the University of Alabama. Lanning swiftly dismissed the speculations, expressing his commitment to Oregon for the long haul. He stated, “I desire to be at Oregon for as long as Eugene will have me.”
No Consideration of Alabama Job
During an interview on “The Ryen Russillo Podcast,” Lanning made it clear that he never contemplated the head coaching position at Alabama. He emphasized that his decision to stay at Oregon was made well before the season commenced. Lanning acknowledged the trust that Oregon had placed in him and expressed his belief that the Ducks’ coaching role has the potential to become the best in the nation.
“Oregon took a chance on me. I truly believe that this is a job that we can make the best job in. And when you feel that way, then let’s put some blood, sweat, and tears, and sweat equity into making that the job you think it can be,” Lanning stated.
Lanning further explained that his commitment extends beyond public appearances. He emphasized the importance of personal conversations with players and their families, assuring them of his dedication to the team. For Lanning, his commitment means something real, and he intends to honor it.
Family and Stability
Another significant factor that influenced Lanning’s decision was his family. He revealed that he did not want to uproot them again by moving to a different location. This desire for stability and continuity played a role in his determination to remain in Eugene.
Alabama’s New Hire
Although Alabama did not secure Lanning as their head coach, they have found their replacement for Nick Saban. The Crimson Tide have hired former Washington coach Kalen Deboer. Deboer, who achieved an impressive 25-3 record in his two years at Washington, including a Pac-12 championship in 2023, will now take the helm at Alabama.
With the coaching situation settled, both Oregon and Alabama can focus on their respective football programs as they aim to achieve their goals in the upcoming season.
