Osaka, a former world No. 1, hasn’t participated in the WTA Tour since September 2022. However, she expressed her excitement about making her comeback, stating, “I am really excited about getting back out on court and competing.” She added, “The Brisbane International is such a great tournament and will set me up for a brilliant comeback this summer.”
The Brisbane International, which serves as a warm-up event for the Australian Open, is scheduled to take place from December 31, 2023, to January 7, 2024.
Osaka, known for her dominance on hard courts, has won two of her four grand slam titles at the Australian Open, with her latest victory coming in 2021. After her triumph at the French Open in the same year, she revealed her struggles with depression, leading to her withdrawal from the tournament.
Osaka recently shared her intention to play a more extensive schedule in 2024, signaling her return to competitive tennis after a brief hiatus.
