Vilnius Attracts Young Professionals
Lithuania has been named the happiest country for young people in the world according to the World Happiness Report. The report, released by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford, analyzed data from the Gallup World Poll to determine rankings based on subjective well-being. While Lithuania placed 19th overall in happiness, it clinched the top spot in the under-30 category.
Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, has emerged as a popular destination for young professionals. A Brazilian consultant based in Vilnius highlighted the city’s appeal, citing career opportunities as a major draw for young workers seeking professional growth.
US Youth Struggle with Happiness
On the flip side, young people in the US are facing challenges in terms of happiness. The US dropped from the 15th position in 2023 to 23rd in the latest rankings. In the under-30 category, the US fell to 62nd place, trailing behind countries like Saudi Arabia and Guatemala.
Jan-Emmanuel De Neve, a professor and editor of the report, expressed surprise at the US’s decline, particularly among young people. He noted that while happiness among the youth has decreased in certain regions like North America and Western Europe, it is not a global trend.
Meanwhile, Finland maintained its top position in the overall rankings but slipped to seventh place for individuals under 30, showing a slight drop in happiness levels among Finnish youth compared to adults in the country.
