Former CBS Chief Pays $11,250 Fine
Former CBS executive Les Moonves has agreed to pay a $11,250 fine to settle a complaint accusing him of interfering with a police investigation of a sexual assault case, as per documents released by the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission on Friday.
Moonves Collaborated with LAPD Captain
Moonves acknowledged collaborating with then-Captain Cory Palka of the LAPD in 2017 to access information about a sexual assault victim’s police report against him. Palka, who had provided security for Moonves at the Grammy Awards, notified network officials about the complaint.
Violations and Settlement
Moonves was accused of three violations of city rules. An attorney representing him did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The commission will convene next week to discuss the settlement.
Allegations and #MeToo Movement
Phyllis Golden-Gottlieb reported to police in 2017 that she had been sexually assaulted by Moonves in the 1980s. Moonves acknowledged relations with three accusers but denied any non-consensual behavior.
Legal Actions and Outcome
The Los Angeles County district attorney declined to press charges against Moonves in 2018, citing expired statutes of limitations from Golden-Gottlieb’s allegations. Moonves and CBS agreed to a $30.5 million settlement in 2022 for concealing sexual assault allegations from shareholders.
