Connor Stalions, the Michigan football staff member who played a pivotal role in the ongoing NCAA investigation concerning sign-stealing and alleged scouting irregularities, tendered his resignation on Friday.
The decision to resign from his position was confirmed by Kurt Svoboda, a spokesperson for Michigan Athletics, with the effective date being Friday afternoon. The university chose not to provide any additional comments on the matter.
Stalions’ attorney, Brad Beckworth, released a statement to The Athletic, shedding light on his client’s motivations behind the resignation. According to Beckworth, Stalions voluntarily decided to step down due to the distractions created by media coverage surrounding his involvement. These distractions, he believed, were affecting the second-ranked Wolverines’ focus, who were gearing up to face Purdue on Saturday night and are considered strong contenders for the College Football Playoff.
Furthermore, the statement emphasized Stalions’ assertion that, to the best of his knowledge, neither Coach Jim Harbaugh nor any other member of the coaching staff had encouraged or been aware of rule-breaking or inappropriate conduct related to recent allegations regarding advanced scouting.
