Coach Pederson Provides Update on Lawrence’s Progress
Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence remains uncertain for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as he continues to undergo the NFL’s concussion protocol. Head coach Doug Pederson provided an update on Lawrence’s status, stating that while he will practice on Friday, it does not necessarily mean he has been cleared to play.
Lawrence did not participate in practice on Wednesday or Thursday, leading to speculation that he would not be able to play. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport confirmed this, stating that Lawrence was “not on the practice field again” and suggesting that backup quarterback CJ Beathard would likely be starting in his place.
Backup Quarterback Beathard Prepared to Step In
If Lawrence is unable to play, CJ Beathard will be taking the reins as the starting quarterback. Beathard had previously prepared as the starter earlier in the season when Lawrence was dealing with an ankle injury. Although the Jaguars have confidence in Beathard’s abilities, they acknowledge that there may be some adjustments in their game plan due to the different skill sets and playing styles of the two quarterbacks.
Jacksonville offensive coordinator Press Taylor emphasized that the situation is not as chaotic as it may seem, as the team has dealt with similar uncertainties before. Taylor also highlighted the similarities between Lawrence and Beathard in their ability to operate effectively from the pocket.
Jaguars’ Playoff Hopes Hang in the Balance
The Jaguars’ playoff hopes are on the line as they prepare for a crucial game against the Buccaneers. Currently tied with the Tennessee Titans and the Indianapolis Colts for the top spot in the AFC South, Jacksonville cannot afford to miss out on a victory. With three consecutive losses, the team is looking to turn their fortunes around and secure a much-needed win.
Trevor Lawrence has been the Jaguars’ starting quarterback throughout the season, and his absence would undoubtedly be felt. Nevertheless, the team remains focused on the task at hand and is prepared to adjust their game plan accordingly, whether Lawrence is cleared to play or not.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Lawrence’s availability, the Jaguars are determined to give their all on Sunday and fight for a crucial victory in their playoff push.
