Owners Advised to Park Outside Amid Safety Concerns
Hyundai has issued a recall of more than 90,000 Genesis vehicles due to a potential fire risk. Owners of certain models are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the necessary repair is completed.
The recall affects specific models, including 2015-2016 Genesis, 2017-2019 Genesis G80, Genesis G90, and 2019 Genesis G70 vehicles. A letter from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration highlighted the issue, stating that water intrusion into the starter solenoid could lead to an electrical short, potentially causing an engine compartment fire while the vehicle is parked or in operation.
According to Hyundai documents, there have been a dozen “thermal incidents” involving starters in the U.S. from September 29, 2017, to July 9, 2023. These incidents typically involve smoke, component melting, or fires. While there have been no reported crashes or injuries related to this issue, the company is taking proactive measures to address the concern.
As part of the recall, dealers will install a remedy relay kit in the engine junction box free of charge to mitigate the fire risk and ensure the safety of the affected vehicles and their owners.
