18 Students and a Teacher Hospitalized after Experiment with Dry Ice
GALLATIN, Tenn. — A routine day of science experiments turned into a scare at Vena Stuart Elementary in Gallatin as 18 third-grade students and a teacher were rushed to the hospital. The incident occurred following an experiment involving dry ice, leading to several children reporting feeling unwell.
According to officials from Sumner County Schools, the students were working on science projects with an outside guest presenter when the mishap unfolded. Some students began experiencing nausea, prompting school administrators to call for emergency assistance.
Sumner County Schools’ Director, Scott Langford, reassured parents in a social media video that all those hospitalized were in good condition and were later discharged the same day. Firefighters were also on the scene to evaluate and air out the classroom where the experiment took place.
Langford expressed gratitude towards the swift actions of school staff and emergency responders, emphasizing that the safety of the students remained a top priority.
