Wang Yi emphasizes the importance of cooperation at the Munich Security Conference
At the Munich Security Conference, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi delivered a strong message to international security policy officials. He cautioned against attempts to exclude China from trade relations under the guise of reducing dependency, labeling it a “historical mistake.”
Wang Yi highlighted the significance of cooperation, stating that “The absence of cooperation is the biggest risk.” He criticized the de-risking strategy adopted by countries like Germany and the Group of Seven, emphasizing that isolating China would be detrimental to global economic progress.
Pushback Against Allegations of Forced Labor
In addition to addressing trade concerns, Wang Yi also renewed China’s stance on allegations of forced labor in the Xinjiang region. He dismissed claims of labor transfer programs targeting Uyghurs and other Turkic minorities as “fabricated information.” Wang Yi asserted that such accusations aim to hinder China’s development rather than address genuine concerns.
As the world grapples with economic challenges and global interdependence, China’s foreign minister urged for a collaborative approach to ensure that economic globalization remains mutually beneficial and inclusive.
