A Bold Play at Augusta National
Bryson DeChambeau surprised spectators at the Masters when he pulled a sign out of the ground at Augusta National during a windswept second round. Facing a tricky situation after his tee shot veered into the woods, DeChambeau, known as “The Scientist” for his innovative approach, decided to play onto a neighboring fairway, but a signpost blocked his path. Without hesitation, he lifted the sign out of his way, much to the amazement of onlookers, enabling him to make a successful escape and secure a birdie.
Rule 15.2 and DeChambeau’s Response
According to Rule 15.2 of the USGA’s Rules of Golf, golfers can remove movable obstructions with “reasonable effort.” DeChambeau, after safely returning the sign, quipped to reporters that it was “the only option.” He humorously explained, “I was trying to direct people… I hit a great shot around the corner and was able to take advantage of a pretty open entrance to the green.”
