Allegations of Extravagant Lifestyle and Failure to Pay Taxes
The special counsel has charged Hunter Biden with three felonies and six misdemeanors, accusing him of spending millions on an extravagant lifestyle instead of paying his tax bills. According to the indictment, Hunter stopped paying his outstanding taxes for the year 2015 and included false business deductions in his 2018 tax returns to evade assessment of taxes. These actions were an attempt to reduce the substantial tax liabilities he faced as of February 2020.
Memoir Reveals Drug Use and Questionable Business Expenses
In 2019, Hunter began writing a memoir called “Beautiful Things” and received deposits totaling $140,625 into his wife’s bank account from January to October 2020. The indictment claims that in 2018, Hunter claimed approximately $388,810 in business-related travel expenses without disclosing his involvement in drug use or the true nature of his expenses. The memoir details his extensive drug and alcohol abuse during that time, contradicting his claims about business expenses.
Indictment Highlights Luxurious Lifestyle and Personal Expenses
The indictment references Hunter’s memoir, which describes his lavish lifestyle, including stays in luxury hotels and private rentals. It quotes the memoir extensively, showcasing partying, expensive purchases, and interactions with dubious individuals. The indictment contends that there is no evidence of any business taking place during his stays at these luxury establishments, and expenses detailed in the memoir were not disclosed as personal expenses.
Defense Attorney Accuses Special Counsel of Bias
Hunter’s defense attorney, Abbe Lowell, criticized special counsel David Weiss, claiming that the charges against Hunter would not have been brought if his last name was not Biden. Lowell argues that the charges are politically motivated and accuses the special counsel of attempting to destroy the Biden presidency.
Hunter Biden himself believes that these charges are an attempt to harm his father, stating that the goal is to “kill” him, causing his father unimaginable pain and potentially destroying the presidency.
