The Missed Opportunity
It seemed like a dream scenario for football fans – the Watt brothers, J.J. and T.J., joining forces on the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, this dream almost became a reality during the middle of this season. J.J. Watt, the future Hall of Famer, admitted that he was tempted to join the Steelers and leave behind his longtime team, the Houston Texans.
A Genuine Desire
The elder Watt spent 10 out of his 12 seasons with the Texans, while his brother T.J. has been a standout player for the Steelers. J.J. revealed that he visited T.J. and for the first time genuinely missed playing football. He even humorously remarked that the Steelers lost the following three games after his visit.
A Legitimate Contender
J.J. also mentioned that he would only consider returning to a team that had a legitimate chance of winning. T.J.’s only way to recruit his brother was to prove that the Steelers were contenders. T.J. stated in a recent interview with Fox News Digital, “I was trying to win as much as possible. I knew that was going to be a big factor.” However, J.J.’s return to football did not come to fruition.
Contentment in Retirement
The next day, T.J. experienced aches and pains, which helped J.J. return to reality. J.J. expressed his relief in being able to go for a walk and enjoy coffee instead of dealing with the soreness and physical demands of the game. T.J. remarked, “He’s not living a bad life at all.”
A Generous Gesture
While T.J.’s Steelers did make it to the playoffs, they unfortunately lost in the wild-card round without him due to his knee injury. Despite his disappointment, T.J. is currently in Las Vegas for the Super Bowl, where he is giving a wounded war veteran named Adam Alexander the opportunity of a lifetime. T.J., along with other NFL stars, partnered with USAA to gift military veterans tickets to the big game. T.J. emphasized his gratitude and respect for these heroes, stating, “These guys deserve way more of the limelight than we do.”
Award-Winning Brothers
If J.J. Watt wins the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award, it would mark the fifth time that the Watt brothers have combined to win this prestigious honor.
