Jeff Jones became the head coach of the Old Dominion Monarchs in 2013, after coaching the American University basketball team for a significant period of time. Under Jones’ leadership, Old Dominion secured a spot in the NCAA tournament during the 2018-19 season. With a record of 203-131 at ODU, Jones has proven himself to be a skilled and successful coach.
Uncertainty Surrounding Jones’ Return
The timeline for Jones’ return to the coaching bench remains unclear. The university’s statement expressed gratitude to the medical team at the Honolulu Straub Medical Center, as well as ODU associate head athletic trainer Jason Mitchell, for their prompt care and expertise in treating Jones.

Once the Diamond Head Classic concludes, the Monarchs are scheduled to begin Sun Belt Conference play on December 30 with a matchup against South Alabama. The team will continue to navigate the challenging season ahead, with Donohue leading the way as the interim coach.
